Sheriff’s Office blood drive set for Friday, March 12th
BOURNE - Barnstable County Sheriff James M. Cummings has set this coming Friday, March 12th, (tomorrow) from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., for his office’s first blood drive of the new year.

It will be at the Barnstable County Correctional Facility (BCCF) in Bourne. The facility is located just outside the Bourne gate to the Massachusetts Military Reservation, which is near the Bourne National Cemetery.

Walk-ins are welcome. They have contributed to the Office’s four prior blood drives and so “make a positive difference in an area of unrelenting need,” Sheriff Cummings noted. “We’re hoping for another strong turn-out and perhaps our highest number of pints collected this time around.”

In addition to walk-ins, donations will be taken from the more than 300 uniformed officers, corrections support staff, and administrative personnel who work at BCCF. “Our employees were generous last time and I know they will be again,” the Sheriff said.

The blood drive’s other sponsor is the C-Lab at Cape Cod Hospital. This guarantees that all blood collected on Friday will stay on Cape.

Donors should park in the lot designated for visitors and enter BCCF’s front lobby.

To get to the facility, take Route 28 (either direction) into the town of Bourne. At the Massachusetts Military Reservation rotary, follow signs leading to the base and to the Bourne National Cemetery. The Sheriff’s Office is accessible by making a U-turn just before the base gate. Ample signage will direct donors from the rotary on in. Those with base access and who enter at the Falmouth or Sandwich gate should exit at the Bourne gate and take an immediate right once they’re off base.
