Top Story: House fire in Falmouth


FALMOUTH
- A Falmouth home was heavily damaged by fire early Tuesday morning.

An off-duty Falmouth Fire Captain reportedly discovered the fire at 88 Queen Street just after 4 a.m. and called in the alarm.

A woman was rescued from the house, evaluated by EMTs and taken to Falmouth Hospital as a precaution.

Mutual aid from Mashpee and Cotuit covered Falmouth stations.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Body found behind Zachary's in Mashpee
Foul play not suspected after body found in Provincetown Monday


MASHPEE
 - (Video included) Police are investigating the discovery of a body in Mashpee Tuesday afternoon. The body was discovered outside a cottage behind Zachary's Pub off Great Neck Road North. Mashpee and State Police were on the scene investigating. No manner of death was disclosed. The State Medical Examiners office will perform an autopsy to determine the cause of death. The D.A.s office has told WXTK News foul play is not suspected. 

Meanwhile, foul play is also not suspected after a man's body was found by a beach walker in Provincetown Monday. The discovery was made on Long Point near the end of the West End Breakwater, a popular walking route to the point.

Woman injured in car-wash mishap

SOUTH DENNIS
– Shortly before 1 p.m. on Tuesday a woman attempting to wash her car at the self-service car wash behind the Route 134 Shell in South Dennis apparently got snagged by her vehicle and dragged through the car wash.
 
Her Toyota Matrix exited the car wash structure unoccupied and rolled across the street, hitting and moving a large rock, one of several that lines the roadway near the South Dennis Post Office.
 
Dennis Police and Dennis Fire responded to the scene and found Carol Burton-Gorman, 74. of South Yarmouth lying on the ground outside the car wash exit. She was taken to Cape Cod Hospital by ambulance with unknown but apparently not life-threatening injuries.
 
The photo at bottom right shows the vehicle, which had been moved by police from the point of impact to a parking spot in the nearby lot. The rocks and car wash can be seen in the background. The vehicle sustained some minor front-end damage.
 
Dennis Police are investigating.

SUV crashes into Yarmouth medical offices


YARMOUTH - A Yarmouth medical building was heavily damaged when an SUV struck the building.
 
The Toyota Rav4 struck the Seaside Medical building on Ansel Hallet Road Tuesday afternoon.

The woman driving was taken to Cape Cod Hospital with non-life threatening injuries. No one in the building was injured.

The Yarmouth building inspector is investigating the structural integrity of the building.

Route 6 crash further snarls traffic near Sagamore Bridge
BOURNE - A crash between exits 1 and 2 on Route 6 west bound caused further delays for motorists trying to cross the Sagamore Bridge Tuesday afternoon. Bourne EMTs were on location checking on what were reported to be non life-threatening injuries. The crash is under investigation by State Police. Further details were not immediately available.

Vineyard woman killed in I-495 crash
WAREHAM - An Oak Bluffs woman was killed when her Jeep Grand Cherokee crashed and burst into flames on I-495 in Wareham. The crash happened Monday evening on the south bound side just before exit 1 (I-195). State Police identify the driver as 57-year-old Penelope H. Dickens. She was pronounced dead at the scene. The investigation into the cause of the crash is continuing by State Police. Traffic headed toward the Cape was heavily backed up while officials worked the scene.

Falmouth man accused of firearm assault over weekend

FALMOUTH 
- A local man is accused of a frightening assault with a firearm over the weekend. According to Falmouth Police Steven Moore, 52, pointed a .45 caliber handgun at a man on Martin Road and was in the process of pulling the trigger when a second victim hit his hand. The gun discharged a round into the ground. Moore was also accused of kicking the victims and pistol whipping the first victim. He was charged with assault and battery with a dangerous weapon (3 counts -- gun and shod foot), discharging a firearm within 500 feet of a dwelling, possession of a firearm without a license, illegal possession of ammo and improper storage of firearms. The latter charge came after a search of Moore's residence turned up six more rifles and handguns. The motive in the attack is not clear.
