 - An apparent head-on crash injured two people in Yarmouthport Saturday evening. The crash happened shortly before 8 p.m. on Route 6A by Bray Farm Road in front of Oliver's Restaurant. A blue sedan and an Isuzu Rodeo collided and it appeared both vehicles narrowly missed hitting a tree as well. Both drivers were taken to Cape Cod Hospital with injuries described as serious but non life-threatening.

Meanwhile around 10 p.m., a car struck a utility pole in the 200 block of Winslow Gray Road, bringing wires down. The driver was taken to Cape Cod Hospital with unknown injuries. Power was knocked out in the neighborhood. Winslow Gray Road was expected to be closed for an extended time while NStar replaces the pole. Yarmouth Police are investigating both crashes.

Stranded dolphin released in Provincetown

PROVINCETOWN
- Volunteers from the International Fund for Animal Welfare (IFAW) and the Cape Cod Stranding Network were busy for a second day in a row.

An atlantic white sided dolphin beached on the inside of the Cape. The volunteers had to dig the dolphin out of thick mud to free it. It was transported to Herring Cove Beach in Provincetown.

There it was tagged for tracking purposes and then in the glow of headlights from Provincetown Police cruisers and a National Park Service ranger vehicle was carried into the sea and released.

According to reports two other dolphins stranded yesterday. One could not be saved but the other was successfully returned to the water.

Scientists aren't sure what causes the strandings. The recent strong storm and astronomically high and low tides are likely factors.

The topography of the inside of the Cape where the water can go out fast also appears to lend itself to dolphins and even whales getting stranded at times.
