Two big stories: 2 pedestrians struck and seriously injured in Hyannis; Suspect arrested after latest TD Bank robbery
Two pedestrians struck in Hyannis
HYANNIS - Two pedestrians were seriously injured after being struck by a car in Hyannis. It happened about 6 p.m., as the two were apparently trying to cross Route 28 near the CVS before Strawberry Hill Road near the Centerville line. Both victims were rushed to Cape Cod Hospital by Hyannis and Centerville-Osterville-Marstons Mills ambulances after MedFlight helicopters were determined to be unavailable. A third ambulance was called for the driver, Carol Schirm of New Jersey, after she reportedly complained of chest pains. The Lincoln Continental involved was impounded by police as part of the investigation. Damage to the grille and hood was evident along with a broken side view mirror. Traffic was rerouted around the scene until it was cleared. Barnstable Police tell CWN the investigation is ongoing but alcohol and drugs do not appear to have played a role in the crash. Suspect arrested after latest TD Bank robbery
CENTERVILLE - Another TD Bank has been robbed. This time the Centerville branch at the Centerville Shopping Plaza was hit early this afternoon. Our Frank Paparo was in the plaza parking lot when it happened and captured the dramatic scene as police cruisers surrounded the bank, a K-9 dog tracked the suspect and crime scene technicians gathered evidence. The suspect in today's robbery was described as a white male, about 6 foot with a slender build. The heist comes on the heels of Tuesday's in Sandwich along with one in Dennis earlier this month and the Osterville branch which was hit twice in January. Reports say today's suspect was not wearing a sweatshirt like the one in the Dennis and Osterville robberies.
Update: Barnstable Police working with Mashpee Police arrested David R. Manley ,56, of Mashpee Thursday evening, charging him with today's robbery. Officials say he has a lengthy record including an armed robbery case in Middlesex County in 1983. Police are still investigating if he may be involved in the other robberies.
