February 18, 2010 (CAPE COD) The islands of Martha’s Vineyard and Nantucket are apparently the healthiest places to live in the Bay State.
A new report finds that Nantucket and Dukes are the healtiest, while Berkshire and Hampden are among the least healthy.
Barnstable County was ranked the sixth healthiest county in the state.
The study by the University of Wisconsin Population Health Institute and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation looked at every county in the country.
Factors in the study include the rate of people dying before age 75, the rate of low-birthweight infants and adult smoking rates.
Nantucket had a much lower rate of people in poor or fair health than the state average and a higher rate of college graduates.
