HYANNIS - Barnstable Police say they have made several arrests in connection with a series of home invasions and burglaries last Tuesday. During the evening hours of January 12, 2010, the Barnstable Police responded to reports of two armed home invasions and a third attempted armed home invasion in Hyannis. The incidents took place between the hours of 6 and 10 p.m.
The first home invasion occurred at 170 Lincoln Road in Hyannis at approximately 6 p.m. During this incident, three hooded and masked suspects kicked in the front door of the residence. According to the victims, two of the suspects were armed with pistols and demanded cash. The suspects subsequently fled the house with cash, a camcorder and some drug paraphernalia (glass pipe).
At approximately 10 p.m. there was an attempt to force entry into another residence located at 11 Periwinkle Drive in Hyannis. The resident/victim advised responding officers that he heard a loud noise and saw his front door shake. When the resident opened the door, he observed a hooded masked individual wearing gloves standing on his porch with a gun in his hand. The resident slammed the door shut and the suspect fled.
Approximately 20 minutes later, another home invasion took place at 100 Dunns Pond Road in Hyannis. During this incident, three hooded and masked men kicked in the front door of the residence. Upon entering the residence, one of the suspects was armed with a pistol and demanded money. The suspects then began to ransack the house for valuables. The suspects made off with some prescription medication, jewelry and specialty clothing. One of the victims and a witness observed the suspects flee the scene in a dark colored Ford Explorer.
Barnstable Detectives quickly initiated an intensive investigation. On January 14th, Detectives began to identify suspects and also located some of the stolen jewelry from Dunns Pond Road at a pawn shop in New Bedford. After learning that the suspects were planning another home invasion on January 15th, Detectives arrested one of the main suspects, Anthony Wetherbee, 25, of Hyannis.
On January 16th, Barnstable and Falmouth Detectives executed a search warrant at a room at a motel in Falmouth. Detectives seized clothing worn by the suspects and other stolen property from the home invasions.
