First on CWN: Two armed home invasion/burglaries in Hyannis

HYANNIS
 - Barnstable Police are seeking three men who reportedly forced their way into a home on Lincoln Road about 6 p.m.

The men were reportedly armed with guns when they entered the residence on the shortcut between Route 28 and West Main Street.

It was unclear what if anything was taken.

No injuries were reported.

A police K-9 dog could be seen scouring the area for suspects while officers using flashlights (right) checked around the neighborhood for evidence.

Then about 10 p.m., another armed burglary was reported two streets over on Dunn's Pond Road. No shots were fired but one person was evaluated after complaining of chest pains.

Barnstable Police and the Sheriff's Department's Bureau of Criminal Investigation are investigating both incidents as well as a third incident on Periwinkle Drive.

Police are reportedly looking for a dark colored SUV seen leaving the area after one of the incidents. They believe the incidents may be related and not random.

Anyone with information is urged to contact Barnstable Police detectives at (508) 771-6327.

Yarmouth Police food drive a tremendous success

WEST YARMOUTH
– The Yarmouth Police Department reports that on Sunday, January 10, 2010, off-duty Yarmouth Police officers and citizen Volunteers in Police Services (VIPS) members collected 6,000 food items and cash donations worth approximately $11,000 in the Department’s first annual “Fill a Yarmouth Cruiser with Food” community fundraiser. “Everyone involved was extremely supportive and generous,” said Yarmouth Police Department Patrol Force Commander Steven G. Xiarhos. “One of the highlights was long-time South Yarmouth resident Charles Holway (photo at top) filling and paying for eight shopping carts packed with food and baby care supplies.”

Xiarhos says the Department thanks each citizen who made a contribution or donation, the Yarmouth Rotary Club, the Yarmouth Area Chamber of Commerce, Shaw’s and Stop and Shop supermarkets, and Allied Waste for their time, generous donations and commitment.
