Parachuter narrowly avoids landing on Route 6 MARSTONS MILLS - A parachuter narrowly avoided landing on the Mid-Cape Highway Saturday afternoon. The jump apparently took place near the Cape Cod Airport off Race Lane. Strong winds apparently blew the person off course. The person came down on the apron of exit 5 between the off and on ramps and was not injured.
Pedestrian struck in Chatham CHATHAM - A pedestrian was struck by a car in Chatham shortly before midnight. The crash happened on Orleans Road (Route 28) at Crosswinds Farm Road. The victim, a teenage girl, was taken to Cape Cod Hospital with non life-threatening injuries. Chatham Police are investigating.
Jeep flips in Dennis DENNIS - A Jeep driver escaped serious injury after apparently losing control and flipping on the roof off Old Dennis Approach shortly before midnight. Firefighters were able to get the driver out of the vehicle and took her to Cape Cod Hospital for evaluation. Dennis Police are investigating. Meanwhile Dennis firefighters were just finishing dousing a mattress fire at 52 Loring Avenue in West Dennis
Three vehicle crash on busy Falmouth highway Three SUVs collided on West Falmouth Highway early Saturday evening. FALMOUTH - Just after 5:30 pm Saturday evening the Falmouth Fire Rescue department were called to another dramatic vheicle crash at 16 West Falmouth Highway (Route 28). A Kia Rondo, a Cadillac Escalade and a Mercedes SUV came together on this busiest or roads into Falmouth. There were 7 people involved with 5 being transported by Falmouth Fire Rescue and mutual aid from Mashpee Fire Rescue to Falmouth Hospital with what were fortunately minor injuries. two of the people involved declined any medical treatment. The crash is under investigation by Falmouth PD. Traffic was snarled on Route 28 and surrounding streets but quick work by Falmouth Police and Fire cleared things up quickly. Dennisport crash snarls Route 28 DENNISPORT - A two vehicle crash in Dennisport caused major traffic delays for a time along Route 28. The crash happened about 5 p.m. on Route 28 at Route 134. No serious injuries were reported. Dennis Police are investigating. Further details were not immediately available.
Swimmer runs into trouble at Harwich beach HARWICH/DENNIS - A woman ran into trouble while swimming off the beach near the Belmont Condominiums on the Harwich/Dennis line.
It appears the victim swallowed some salt water in the rough surf.
She was able to make it to shore before resceurs arrived.
Dennis Fire and Rescue with the help of Harwich firefighters transported her to Cape Cod Hospital in unknown condition.

Elderly driver seriously injured in Falmouth crash
FALMOUTH - At just after 2 p.m. in Falmouth a very unusual crash sent an elderly male driver to Falmouth Hospital. The man was said to have been preparing to pull out of the drive way at a house in the 100 block of Woods Hole Rd when he apparently had his Subaru Outback wagon in reverse rather than drive and sped down a hill into the backyard of the home. The Subaru missed the tennis courts but struck a large tree flipped over and struck a second tree. Although the crash was dramatic the driver was extricated from the vehicle and transported to Falmouth hospital by Falmouth Fire Rescue with serious but nonlife-threatening injuries and was later flown to a Boston hospital.. Multi vehicle parking lot crash in Hyannis
HYANNIS - At 4:15 p.m. Saturday a Jeep granmd Cherokee crashed into 2 parked cars in the lot of Gol Market on Falmouth Road (Route 28) in Hyannis near the Yarmouth. Hyannis rescuers evaluated 2 people at the scene.
An eyewitness said that it was lucky that the 2 cars were hit were in front of the market, because they stopped the Jeep from hitting the store or pedestrians. The crash is under investigation by Barnstable Police. Photo by Frank Paparo/CWN
Amazing story of survival at Route 6 crash The driver of this van escaped serious injury after reportedly blowing a tire, sideswiping another car and careening into a ditch.
WELLFLEET - Officials are amazed both drivers escaped with non-life threatening injuries after a crash on Route 6 by Briar Road in Wellfleet shortly after 1 p.m..
According to reports a Plymouth minivan blew a tire and sideswiped a Ford Focus station wagon. The van then continued a distance crashing through a guardrail and rolling over down an embankment into a ditch.
The van driver was briefly trapped but quickly freed by rescuers.
Wellfleet Police are investigating.

Yarmouth crashes snarl Route 28 YARMOUTH - A rear-end crash at 10:30 a.m. this morning brought busy Route 28 to a stop for a mile in both directions. Yarmouth Fire EMS documented six refusals . A second rear-end crash ocurred as the first was being investigated. That one (right) also had no injuries.
The location of the crash was 303 Route 28 with busy businesses on both sides of the road. Rt 28 traffic was especially heavy due to cloudy weather and it being "change-over" Saturday.

Car vs SUV and trailer at Trotting Park and Route 28 WEST DENNIS - Around 8:45 a.m. Saturday a Buick LeSabre heading north on Trotting Park Road collided with a Ford Ranger towing a trailer eastbound on Route 28.
The operator of the Buick stated that the driver of a car headed south on Trotting Park Road had signaled her to go.
When the operator of the Buick started into the intersection her car collided with the Ford Ranger.
The operator of the Buick was cited at the scene.
Neither operator needed medical attention.

Fisherman rescued by Coast Guard after severing fingers
CHATHAM - A fisherman was rescued by the Coast Guard after a shipboard accident off the Cape. The Ellen Marie radioed the Coast Guard a crew member had severed two fingers. A 42-foot rescue boat from station Chatham intercepted the fishing vessel about 5 miles off Chatham. The victim was brought back to Chatham early Friday morning and taken by ambulance to Cape Cod Hospital.
Yarmouth Police participate in ride for the fallen
YARMOUTH - A group of Yarmouth Police Officers and friends will be voluntarily participating in a 30-mile bicycle ride in special memory of our courageous Troops who had special connections to Cape Cod that have been killed in combat operations in the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.
This special fundraising event—sponsored by the Yarmouth Police Relief Association—is serving in conjunction with a similar bicycle ride occurring at the same time in Sag Harbor, New York honoring fallen United States Marine Lance Corporal Jordan C. Haerter.
Lance Corporal Haerter and fellow Marine Corporal Jonathan Yale were posthumously given the Navy Cross for Valor for saving the lives of 50 fellow Marines and Iraqi Police Officers in during a suicide bomb attack in Ramadi, Iraq.
Both events will raise funds for the Wounded Warrior Project which is a non-profit organization founded on the principle that veterans are our nation’s greatest assets and dedicated to assisting the men and women of our armed forces who have been severely injured in Iraq, Afghanistan, and other locations around the world.
The ride will start at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 25, 2009 at the beginning of the Cape Cod Rail Trail on Route 134 in Dennis and will end in Wellfleet.
All funds raised by this event are tax deductable and will be donated to the Wounded Warrior Project. For additional information please visit www.woundedwarriorproject.org
