Boat overturns sending three people into the water YARMOUTH - A boat capsized in Lewis Bay off Yarmouth and Hyannis around 5:30 p.m. Three people were thrown into the water but able to make shore on their own. They were checked for possible hypothermia. Yarmouth Fire and the Mass Environmental Police were on scene. Hyannis fire also responded. We'll bring you further details as we get them.
Police capture child rapist WEST YARMOUTH - On Thursday, June 25, 2009 at 3:51 p.m. members of the Yarmouth and Barnstable Police Departments arrived at room 39 at the Yarmouth Gardens Motel on Route 28 in West Yarmouth in an attempt to serve two arrest warrants obtained by the Barnstable Police Department based on an investigation of sexual assault that occurred in Barnstable.
The team of police officers located the suspect, Richard Cura, 40, inside the room and placed him under arrest. He was initially transported to Yarmouth Police Headquarters in West Yarmouth and subsequently transferred to the custody of the Barnstable Police Department. The suspect is scheduled for arraignment in the Barnstable District Court Friday morning. Mug shot furnished by YPD

Police investigate stabbing HYANNIS - Police are investigating the circumstances of a stabbing. The victim, an 18-year-old male made it into Cape Cod Hospital on his own about 2 a.m. The hospital then notified police as is standard procedure. The incident reportedly occurred in Sandwich. After investigation police arrested 22-year-old Robert O'Connell of Sandwich. He was charged with assault and battery, aggravated assault and battery, simple assault and battery, and assault and battery with a dangerous weapon. O'Connell is reportedly the brother of the victim. The injuries do not appear life-threatening.
Robbery/assault suspect nabbed on Nantucket NANTUCKET - A man accused of assaulting and robbing another man on Nantucket is under arrest. 29-year-old Justin Ramut of Westport is charged with unarmed robbery and assault and battery with a dangerous weapon (shod foot). Police say Ramut attacked the man near South Shore Road and Surfside Road Wednesday afternoon before allegedly taking $43 from him.
Woman charged with stealing ring HYANNIS - A jewelry store clerk chased down a suspect who allegedly stole a $2,000 ring. It all started about 4 p.m. at Lucy's Jewelry Store at 667 Main Street. Police arrived to find the clerk in hot pursuit of the woman. 22-year-old Nikita Demello-Eddy of Hyannis was charged with Larceny over $250. Police reportedly found the ring in her undergarments. Demello-Eddy had just finished parole for another larceny.
