Electrical fire damages Falmouth home
NORTH FALMOUTH - An electrical malfunction may be to blame for a fire that damaged a Falmouth home late shortly before midnight Thursday. The fire appeared to be on the outside of the house at 86 Pebble Lane. The fire was quickly knocked down but crews had to check to make sure it hadn't spread into the basement. No injuries were reported.
Coast Guard Falcon jet makes emergency landing
MASS MILITARY RESERVATION - A United State Coast Guard Falcon jet like this one made an emergency landing at the Mass Military Reservation at Otis around 6 p.m.
The crew declared an in flight emergency after noticing an odor in the cockpit. The jet landed safely and the crew evacuated without injury.
USCG maintenance personnel will overhaul the plane to determine the problem.

Two vehicle crash on Route 6 in Wellfleet

Two vehicles collided on Route 6 in Welflleet Thursday afternoon.
WELLFLEET - Wellfleet Police are investigating a two-vehicle crash on Route 6 in Wellfleet shortly before 5 p.m. It appeared a Volvo station wagon collided with a Saab sedan exiting the Seamen's Saving Bank. Both drivers were treated and released at the scene. Minor traffic delays were reported until the vehicles were towed.
Also in Wellfleet, police are investigating an apparent hit and run crash to a utility pole (right). The area around the pole at Main Street and Holbrook Avenue was cordoned off over fears the weaken pole could come down. Utility crews were notified to replace the pole.

Car snaps pole, rolls on Center Street

SOUTH DENNIS – Shortly before 2:30 p.m. on Thursday, a Honda Accord traveling west on Center Street just past Searsville Road in South Dennis hit and snapped a utility pole and rolled over, coming to rest on its roof.
The male driver traveling alone extricated himself from the wreckage and was ambulatory after the crash. A witness reported that the driver said he was reaching for his cell phone and was distracted. He was examined by Dennis paramedics and transported to Cape Cod Hospital with injuries that were not considered life threatening.
The top third of the utility pole with the cross arms and a street light, hung suspended over the center of the road. The pressure on the surrounding live wires and poles was evident as police and firefighters approached the scene with great caution. An NStar crew arrived shortly after the crash to evaluate the situation. Center Street was closed to travel in both directions. Dennis Police are investigating the crash.

Hand grenade causes stir in West Barnstable

Ptl. Kevin Scott and Sgt. David Myett investigate a hand grenade found in a West Barnstable yard.
WEST BARNSTABLE - A landscaping crew working in West Barnstable discovered what appeared to be a hand grenade.
Barnstable Police responded to the scene at 2400 Route 149 in West Barnstable around 2:30 p.m.
Sgt. David Myett and Ptl.Kevin Scott investigated and determined the grenade had been hollowed out and was inert.
The grenade was safely disposed of and yard work continued.

Cotuit crash causes delays
COTUIT - A crash in Cotuit caused delays for the morning commute. The crash happened about 6:20 a.m. at the intersection of Routes 28 and Route 130. One person was taken to Cape Cod Hospital with a traumatic injury. Barnstable Police are investigating the cause of the crash. Further details were not immediately available.
