Motorcyclist struck by Yarmouth women passes away
PLYMOUTH - A motorcyclist allegedly struck by a Yarmouth woman on Route 3 on June 4th has died. 37-year-old Michelle Fells was arrested after her Cadillac allegedly struck the motorcycle on the southbound side between exits 4 and 3 about 10:30 p.m. Fells left the scene but other motorists followed and called State Police. A MedFlight helicopter landed on the highway and flew the motorcycle operator, 58-year-old Charles Pappas of Plymouth, to Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston where he died Tuesday night. Troopers originally charged Fells with operating recklessly to endanger, leaving the scene of an accident, speeding, and failing to stay in marked lanes. It was not immediately clear if additional charges potentially including motor vehicle homicide would be filed.

PROVINCETOWN - Provincetown Police and National Park Rangers are investigating the first crash to occur on the newly designed merge of Route 6 and Provincelands Road near Herring Cove Beach.

The crash happened around 5 a.m. Police believe speed was a factor in a Buick Regal failing to negotiate the curve at the end of Route 6.

The vehicle hit soft sand on the shoulder and went airborne into a shallow ditch. Airbags deployed and likely prevented serious injury but the elderly driver was taken to Cape Cod Hospital for evaluation.

The National Park Service sparked controversy this spring when they reconfigured the stretch of roadway. Two lanes of Route 6 traffic are reduced to one and then merged into a two-way one lane each direction section before the road curves to the left.
