Fire damages Yarmouth home

SOUTH YARMOUTH 
- Firefighters were able to quickly knock down a fire in a South Yarmouth residence.

The fire at Captain Chase Road appeared to have started in the garage portion of the home shortly before 6 p.m.

No injuries were reported and fast work by crews appeared to have been able to prevent any significant damage to the living part of the house.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Honda Fit flips on guy wire


CENTERVILLE
– In a bizarre accident at about 8:45 a.m. Tuesday, a woman apparently backing out of her driveway on Childs Street in Centerville drove her Honda Fit up a utility-pole guy wire, flipping it on its roof. The Barnstable Police and Centerville-Osterville-Marstons Mills Fire Department responded to the scene. The driver, 51-year-old Lenore Lyons of Centerville, was evaluated for injuries but refused transport.

Man admits guilt in fatal crash

HARWICH 
- A Dennis man admitted in court he was responsible for a crash that killed his friend in Harwich last February.

Eric St. Cyr was sentenced to two years in jail for motor vehicle homicide while under the influence of alcohol.

On the morning of February 15th, 2009 Cyr's Toyota Sienna van struck a utility pole on Chase Street nearly breaking the vehicle in two.

Cyr's front seat passenger 19-year-old Steven Saling (right) died at the scene of the crash.

Woman assaulted on Nantucket
NANTUCKET - A Nantucket woman says two men assaulted her while on the way home from work at a restaurant Saturday night. The attack allegedly took place on Hussey Street. The victim told police two men, one white, one black, slapped her but then fled when a car turned the corner. The woman was treated at Nantucket Cottage Hospital for non-life threatening injuries.

Baby rescued from smoky home as father sleeps
FALMOUTH
- Alert neighbors rescued a baby from a smoke filled home. Fire alarms alerted the neighbors on Weston Road Sunday, who discovered the smoke and sprang into action. The baby's father had apparently fallen asleep in a car in the driveway. Macaroni and Cheese on the stove had burned. The girl was not injured. The man reportedly told officials he was tired after fishing all night and fell asleep while getting something out of the car. No charges have been filed.
