Hit and run topples utility pole in Dennis
DENNIS - Police are seeking a vehicle that apparently struck a utility pole in Dennis and then left the scene. The incident happened about 11:35 p.m. in front of 141 Trotting Park Road. The pole was snapped and power lines fell to the ground. NStar crews were called to replace the pole.

Gas line struck in Osterville
OSTERVILLE - A landscaping crew apparently struck a gas line at a home in Osterville Monday afternoon. 

Centerville-Osterville-Marstons Mills (COMM) firefighters responded to the driveway of 109 Eel River Road about 5:10 p.m. and stood by until National Grid could respond.

The occupants of the house evacuated on their own until the "all clear" was given. 

It has been a busy day for National Grid technicians, as this was the third gas line struck in the past four hours. (see related stories below).

Brewster gas leak prompts evacuation, road closures

BREWSTER - A natural gas leak caused some anxious moments in Brewster Monday afternoon.

According to reports a riding mower being used by a landscaping company hit a gas line between the house and a cottage at 255 Long Pond Road (Route 137) about 2:30 p.m.

Both buildings were evacuated and traffic temporarily detoured off Route 137 between Route 124 and Tubman Road after fumes permeated the scene.

National Grid was able to quickly cap the leak, No one was injured.

Construction crew hits gas line in Hyannis
HYANNIS - A construction crew hit an old gas line in Hyannis early Monday afternoon.

Leftover gas in the line at South Street and Pearl Street escaped.

National Grid was called to the scene to check the situation out. 

Already heavy traffic in the area was further backed up.

Two-car crash on Route 6 in Dennis


SOUTH DENNIS – Around 9:26 a.m. Monday the Dennis Fire Department received a call from the State Police about a two-vehicle crash on Route 6 just east of the Route 134 overpass in the westbound lane.

The accident occurred in a construction area with lane restrictions marked by orange barrels. A Toyota Highlander and a Chevy S10 pickup collided, sending one person to the hospital with unknown injuries. It is not known at this time which vehicle the injured person was in.

The pickup truck came to rest at an angle to the line of travel with damage to the left side. The Toyota remained in a westbound orientation.

Safe found in pond apparent evidence of break-in

CENTERVILLE - Around 8:15 a.m. Monday a man walking his dog on Lumbert Mill Road in Centerville spotted a broken home safe in shallow water near the shore of small pond.

Barnstable Police Officer Kevin Donovan secured the scene until County CIO Tim Wallace arrived to process the broken safe and papers.

The safe contained legal papers that identified a home address in Centerville thought to be a summer dwelling.

The officers went to the home and found an open door and surmised that there had been a break-in.

Barnstable Police are investigating.
