Woman allegedly attacks police after being arrested for drugs
YARMOUTHPORT - Yarmouth Police report that on Sunday, Police patrol officers were dispatched to Macomber Drive in Yarmouthport for a report of three individuals dressed in dark clothing walking around making noise and causing a disturbance.

Officers arrived on location and located two subjects who were identified as Lindsay Viera, 23, of South Yarmouth and an unidentified male. A warrant check on the two revealed three outstanding warrants for Viera. She was placed in hand cuffs and transported to Yarmouth Police headquarters for booking.

While being booked in by Patrol Sergeant John Fallon, Viera was advised of her warrants and her rights. Viera requested that she be checked by Yarmouth Fire Department personnel for the injuries she inflicted on herself earlier in the day. Viera stated that she used a sharp object and made several cuts along both wrists

Before being placed in the cell, Viera was searched and one pill identified as Klonopin was found in a sneaker. The pill was confiscated and tagged as evidence with a new charge filed against Viera for possession of a class C.  Viera was then placed into a female holding cell.

A short time later, Yarmouth Fire Department personnel arrived at the station to examine Viera's wrists. During the examination in the cell, additional illegal drugs were discovered. During a search conducted by Yarmouth Police Patrol Officer Cheryl Nugent Gomsey and Reserve Police Officer Emily Tibbetts, Viera attacked Officer Nugent Gomsey who was struck in the head by a punch. Viera also grabbed Officer Nugent Gomsey's glasses and broke them. Yarmouth Police Patrol Officer David Dickey rushed into the cell and pushed Viera onto the bunk to control her and end the attack. Additional charges were then filed again Viera for Assault and Battery on a Police Officer and Felony Destruction of Property.

Yarmouth Police Patrol Officer Nugent Gomsey, a respected and decorated 25-year veteran Yarmouth Police Officer, was taken to Cape Cod Hospital where she was treated for an injury to her neck. Officer Nugent-Gomsey has been released and is currently home recuperating from her injuries.

Viera was held at Yarmouth Police Headquarters and transported to the Barnstable District Court Monday morning for arraignment.
