NSTAR transformer on the move

HYANNIS
- A massive electrical transformer arrived at the docks in Hyannis late Wednesday evening. The transformer is intended to improve the reliability of electricity on the Cape according to the utility. It was hoisted by a large crane onto a specialized truck. The truck was escorted at 1 MPH up onto Route 132. The transformer is so large it won't fit under the exit 6 overpass so the truck had to go up on the highway to go around. The final destination is an NSTAR substation on Oak Street in West Barnstable.

Cars roll on roof in Yarmouth, Sandwich
YARMOUTHPORT - A vehicle struck a utility pole and rolled on its roof in Yarmouthport about 9:30 p.m. Wednesday. The crash happened on Route 6A by the Bass River Rod & Gun Club. Yarmouth Police and Fire Department personnel arrived and found a 2003 BMW on its roof and the operator Rose M. Rodriguez, 51, of Yarmouthport slightly injured.

Yarmouth Police Crash Investigator Patrol Officer Gordon Gibbons determined that the operator was at fault as her vehicle left the wet roadway and struck a utility pole due to excessive speed.

NStar crews were expected to work through the night to replace the pole. Traffic was being rerouted around the scene. The crash is under investigation by Yarmouth Police.

Meanwhile, another vehicle also ended up on its roof in Sandwich sometime after 2 a.m. It happened on the exit 3 ramp from Route 6 westbound to Quaker Meetinghouse Road. That driver was also uninjured. State Police are investigating.
