January 9, 2013 (ROCKLAND) _ A Mashpee High School student is facing charges after allegedly making a threat on Twitter to a Rockland High School student.
Rockland school officials say they received a printed copy of the communication Monday – in advance of a basketball game scheduled for Tuesday night between the towns.
A parent of the student targeted by the tweet snapped a picture from the computer screen.
Rockland High School Principal Alan Cron says the tweet contained a “general threat” they believed was serious enough to involve the police.
Cron says the student attempted to remove the tweet – apparently realizing it was inappropriate.
The principal says that even though the tweet seemed to be more talk than substance – there is a consequence for making such a threat.
An investigation by police and school officials from both towns led to the arrest of the teen on charges of threat to commit a crime and disturbing a school assembly.
Additional security was put in place for Tuesday night’s basketball game and there were no incidents.
