Cape Cod beaches to host several polar bear plunges

December 31, 2012 (HYANNIS) _ Some very brave – and maybe a little crazy Cape Codders – will be jumping into the icy Atlantic tomorrow at annual polar bear plunges.

All the events benefit various charities.

The Monument Beach Polar Club will jump at noon to benefit the Bourne Friends Food Pantry.

In Harwich – swimmers will brave the waters of Bank Street Beach at noon in support of Hope Dementia and Alzheimer’s Services.

Other polar plunges take place at Old Silver Beach in Falmouth to benefit the Cape Cod Center for Women, Bass River Beach in Yarmouth to assist the council on aging – and Loop Beach in Cotuit to help the family of motorcycle accident victim.

Plunges will also take place at Millway Beach in Barnstable Village and Surrey Lane Beach in Falmouth.
