Falmouth selectmen ratify controversial board appointment

December 12, 2012 (FALMOUTH) _ Falmouth selectmen give final approval to their controversial appointment to the Cape Cod Commission.

Andrew Putnam, 22, son of selectman Brent Putnam, was appointed last week and his selection ratified Monday night.

His selection has raised concern among some in Falmouth who wonder about his experience – and his father’s position on the board.

Putnam was chosen over Dr. Edward Gross – who has been involved in Falmouth government for several years.

Selectman Mary Pat Flynn expressed concern about the speed of the appointment. She was on vacation last week and was never told putnam was a candidate.

But others on the board defended the move – saying back-room politics didn’t factor into the decision.
