Chatham and Orleans boards take up piping plover issue
December 5, 2012 (CHATHAM) _ Orleans and Chatham officials are still looking for ways to deal with lengthy summer closures to the off-road section of Nauset Beach caused by nesting piping plovers.
But it appears Chatham is more interested in seeking a solution at this point.
At a joint Orleans and Chatham boards of selectmen meeting Tuesday – Orleans officials indicated the shark problem is more pressing for them at this point.
Chatham selectman Florence Seldin suggested they create a grassroots effort among communities impacted by the plovers as a starting point.
Scott Morris with the Massachusetts Beach Buggy Association implored both boards to take action considering the loss of access and sticker revenue in recent years.
