EAST FALMOUTH - A fire in a garage at Mahoney's Garden Center closed East Falmouth Highway (Route 28) for some time Tuesday afternoon. The fire broke out about 3 p.m. in a building reportedly full of pesticides. No hazmat crews were called and no evacuations were reported. Crews took a defensive attack fighting the fire from outside as flame shot through the roof. Part of the building collapsed. Hoses had to be run across Route 28 forcing the closure of the road from Central Avenue to Fresh Pond Road. No injuries were reported. The cause of the fire is under investigation. Fire crews remained on scene well into the night watching for hot spots.
