Special radio system helps locate missing senior in Orleans
ORLEANS - At 8:23 a.m., Officers of the Orleans Police Department were dispatched to the East Orleans area, for a report of a senior citizen who was missing for 1½ hours. The gentleman, who was suffering from some medical issues, was located with the use of the Project Lifesaver Equipment. This equipment uses a radio transmitter and a receiver, and enables the Police Officers to locate a person who is wearing the transmitter.
The gentleman was found at 9:18 a.m., approximately a ¼ mile from his residence trapped in some heavy underbrush and thickets off of a pathway. He was treated by the Orleans Rescue Squad for some mild hypothermia, and then brought back to his residence and family friends.

Sheriff's CERT seeking donations for Hurricane victims
Two new dropoff sites launched
Six sites have been designated as collection points for their planned effort, but the time to respond is now. Whatever is accumulated will be loaded onto delivery trucks and begin the trek south on Route 95 on Saturday – or Sunday at the latest. First and only stop: Neptune, New Jersey.
“It is time to look past our own good fortune in being largely spared Sandy’s wrath,” Sheriff Cummings observed. “We need to help our fellow East Coasters, our fellow Americans really, and make a meaningful commitment to the ongoing relief effort there.”
Working with the Sheriff CERT teams will be Margo Cahoon, a public-spirited Cape Codder who has helped set up “Cape Cod Care Package” in direct response to the human suffering left in Sandy’s wake. Overseeing the effort for Sheriff Cummings will be Chrystal LaPine, his director of public safety training.
The drop-off locations will be open Tuesday (this) morning from 8 .M. to 4 P.M. and for that same eight-hour block Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday. The sites are:
The Barnstable County Correctional Facility, 6000 Sheriff’s Place, Bourne.
The West Barnstable Fire Department, Route 149, West Barnstable.
The Sheriff’s Youth Ranch, 1445 Osterville-West Barnstable Road, West Barnstable.
Cape & Islands Emergency Medical Services, 66 Bayview Road, West Yarmouth (behind Cape Cod Hospital in Hyannis.)
The additional locations are Sandwich Fire Department headquarters on 115 Route 6A in Sandwich
and the Wellfleet Council on Aging, 715 King’s Highway, Wellfleet. That brings to six the total number of sites.
Cash donations will be accepted at the Cape & Islands EMS location only. As for the preferred items, the list includes:
work gloves
non-latex gloves
sweatshirts
thermal underwear
contractor bags
batteries (all sizes)
flashlights
shovels
DuraFlame logs
matches
lighters
mops
brooms
face masks
assorted toiletries
non-prescription pain medications
hand sanitizer
waterless shampoo
baby food
baby wipes
diapers (all sizes)
toddler food
non-perishable snack and food items
games and coloring books for kids
washcloths, towels, blankets
Two Cape Cod firms have already promised the overland trucking that will be required to hold and haul whatever commodities are collected. That would be Nick DeCosta’s SNS Transport in Sandwich and Charlie Stang & Sons Transport Company in Nantucket.
“Please,” Sheriff Cummings concluded in a plea to prospective donors, “be generous.”
