One killed in violent Provincetown crash

PROVINCETOWN - The Cape Cod Regional Law Enforcement Council Crash Reconstruction team is investigating a horrific crash late Thursday morning in Provincetown. The crash happened on Route 6 just before the Truro town line. It appeared a Subaru Outback wagon driven by Morgan Gaughan, 42, of New York was headed inbound to Provincetown when the vehicle went out of control and somehow went airborne over the small median dune. The Subaru struck a Mercedes sedan driven by Jesse Cartwright, 34, of North Truro head-on and ended up in the woods on the far side of the highway.

Gaughan was ejected from his vehicle. He was rushed to Provincetown Municipal Airport and MedFlighted to Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston where he later succumbed to his injuries. Cartwright was able to crawl out of his smoking Mercedes and was transported to Cape Cod Hospital with a severe leg injury.
Barnstable County Sheriffs Office Crime Scene Investigation unit was called for photos. The Provincetown Fire and Truro Police Departments also assisted at the scene. A small section of Route 6 from Stott’s Crossing in Truro to Snail Road in Provincetown was completely shut down for during the investigation. The crash remains under investigation by Provincetown Police Officers Kevan Spoor and Jason Sullivan.

Harwich woman was rescued from ill-fated tall ship

HARWICH - We told you during our hurricane coverage of the dramatic rescue at sea off Cape Hatteras, NC after the tall ship HMS Bounty foundered in the rough seas and began taking on water. Jessica Hewitt, 25, of Harwich was one of 14 crew members plucked from life rafts by Coast Guard helicopter. One person, Claudine Christian, 42, did not survive. The Captain, Robin Walbridge, 63, is still missing. The 180-foot three-masted tall ship was a replica used in the 1962 Marlon Brando movie "Mutiny on the Bounty"

Truro man sentenced to 18 months for assaults
TRURO - A local man was sentenced to 18 months in jail after pleading guilty in connection with an incident over the 4th of July holiday this year. On July 6th at approximately 11:10 p.m., a 911 call was received from a juvenile reporting the parents were fighting. On arrival, a suspect, Mark Steven Rose, 40, who is known to police and has a lengthy violent history, engaged in a violent struggle with officers. Rose was tased twice in an attempt to subdue him but continued to resist arrest. He was charged of assault with intent to murder, assault and battery on a police officer (3 counts), reckless endangerment of a child (3 counts), A&B, and resisting arrest. Officers found three frightened children had barricaded themselves in a bedroom. The victim was transported to Cape Cod Hospital by ambulance for evaluation. After serving time, Rose will be on 2 1/2 years probation, have to remain alcohol and drug free and stay away from the victim.Mugshot furnished by Truro Police
