Pole fire knocks out power to large section of Hyannis
HYANNIS
- A utility pole fire on Strawberry Hill Road in Hyannis temporarily knocked out power to a large section of Hyannis Friday evening. An equipment malfunction was apparently to blame, NStar crews responded and had restored most of the power in a couple of hours.

Brewster officer escapes injury after being dragged
BREWSTER
- A Brewster police officer escaped injury after reportedly being dragged more than 100 feet by a man who had been deemed a danger to himselves and others. Lt. George Bausch was able to get the vehicle in park and subdue Phillip Days, 52, of Brewster. He faces 3 counts of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon.

Street Crimes Unit arrests two for heroin

YARMOUTH
- On Thursday at 5:30 p.m., Yarmouth Police Street Crimes Unit Patrol Officer Scott Lundegren of the Barnstable-Yarmouth Street Crimes Unit observed suspicious activity at the Hess Gas Station parking lot at the Hyannis/ West Yarmouth town line. The suspect involved, identified as Cameron Byers, 23, of Hyannis (top photo), was allegedly observed with a large "rock" of compressed powdery along with several clear plastic bags. Cameron appeared to be cutting a small quantity of it off with his pocket knife.  SCU Officer Lundegren further observed a second male standing nearby who was allegedly trying to buy heroin from Byers.
 
Additional Yarmouth Police and Street Crimes Unit Officers arrived and subsequently placed Cameron Byers under arrest for Possession of a Class A Heroin with Intent to Distribute and Daniel A. Donoghue Jr.. 25, of West Yarmouth (lower photo) for Conspiracy to Violate Massachusetts Drug Laws.
 
Both males were transported to Yarmouth Police headquarters for booking process and both were scheduled for arraignment today in the Barnstable District Court.

Editors note: Byers is no stranger to authorities. According to CWN archives he was accused of helping then fugutive Gina Giovangelo hide after she allegedly struck and killed wheelchair bound Lillian White of Hyannis in May of 2010 and then fled the scene. He was then the subject of a K-9 search after allegedly trying to flee Barnstable Police im January, 2011. At that time he was wanted on a warrant stemming from ann incident in on July 4th, 2009 where he was arrested for disorderly conduct and resisting arrest. And on September 14th, 2011 he was arrested in Yarmouth for allegedly stealing a purse and credit cards.

Large safety drill held at Hyannis airport

HYANNIS
- A large scale safety drill was held Thursday evening at Barnstable Municipal Airport. The FAA requires that the airport stage a realistic drill every three years and have at least 30 victims. Involved in the drill were 10 fire departments, the Massachusetts Department of Fire Services, Barnstable and  state police, the Coast Guard and the Red Cross.

Robert M. Miller, 56, of Coventry, RI was charged with
