October 11, 2012 (HYANNIS) _ The Cape Cod Rabies Task Force is gearing up for its fall baiting program. Distribution of the oral rabies vaccination baits will begin on Monday – and take place from Barnstable to Orleans. In 2010 – the bait zone shifted out of the Outer Cape – reflecting decreased reports of racoon rabies in that area. About half of the baits will be placed by hand – while the others will be placed in bait stations. Humans and pets can not get rabies from coming in contact with the baits – but are asked to leave them undisturbed. The baits will remain in place for 3 weeks.
