Fire crews battle blaze in Sandwich

SANDWICH - Fire crews battled a spectacular blaze in Sandwich Saturday evening. The call came in around 9:45 p.m. at 76 Tupper Road in an old Antique building near Town Neck Road. Officials immediately went to a defensive attack from the outside of the building as flames shot high in the sky. Firefighters from Bourne and West Barnstable assisted at the scene while crews from several other towns covered empty fire stations. Several small explosions could be heard coming from the building as a large crowd gathered at a nearby bank parking lot to watch. NStar crews were called to shut off power after live lines came down near the building. No injuries were reported. The Red Cross was on scene with refreshments for the firefighters. The State Fire Marshal's office is investigating the cause of the fire.
