Sovereign Bank robbed in Dennis


DENNIS - At approximately 3:40 p.m. on Thursday afternoon, Dennis Police responded to a 911 call from an employee of the Sovereign Bank located at 423 Route 134 in South Dennis, reporting that they had just been robbed.
Initial reports were that the suspect had left the bank and entered the woods at the rear parking lot. A search of the area by K-9 units and police for the suspect was negative.
The robber is described as a white male wearing a dark-colored hooded sweat shirt with a two-toned baseball-style cap with a large B logo on the front and dark colored pants.
An undetermined amount of U.S. currency was taken during the robbery.
At this time the investigation is ongoing.

Old grenade found, safely detonated in Yarmouth
YARMOUTH - At 11:15 a.m. Thursday morning, a realtor found an old pineapple style hand grenade in a tool box at a home on Avery Road in Yarmouth. Yarmouth Police and Fire Departments responded to the scene and with the support of the Massachusetts State Police Bomb Squad, transported it to a secure area at the Town of Yarmouth Disposal and Transfer Area and safely detonated the device. There were no injuries.

Crash closes down Route 6 eastbound
WEST BARNSTABLE - A traffic crash closed Route 6 eastbound near exit 5 Thursday morning. One vehicle apparently went over the guardrail forcing officials to bring in a crane to pull it back on the road. The extent of injuries was not immediately clear. State Police are investigating.
Woman accidentally shoots self in chest in Wellfleet
WELLFLEET - On Wednesday at approximately 11:03 p.m., the Wellfleet Police and Rescue squad responded to Parkington Hill Road, Wellfleet for a female suffering from a gunshot wound. Parkington Hill Road is off West Road on the Eastham line behind the Wellfleet Drive-In
A preliminary investigation showed that Kerrilee Zimmerman, 31, of East Bridgewater went outside with a pellet gun to shoot a raccoon. While outside she tripped and accidently shot herself, resulting in a wound to her chest. Members of the Wellfleet Rescue squad transported Zimmerman to Cape Cod Hospital with serious injuries. A MedFlight helicopter was unable to respond due to weather.
This incident remains under investigation by the Wellfleet Police Department. Members of the Eastham Police department assisted with the preliminary investigation.

Detours Sunday for Harwich Half Marathon
HARWICH - On Sunday, September 30, 2012 the 4th annual Harwich Half Marathon will take place between the hours of 1115am and approximately 3:30pm. Motorists can expect significant traffic delays and detours during this event.
Police Officers from many Cape Cod towns will be on hand to assist with traffic and ensure the safety of the runners and the spectators at the event.
Please adhere to all detours and DO NOT attempt to drive around or through barricades that clearly indicate a road is closed. You may be driving into the path of hundreds of runners!
