Coast Guard launches new aircraft

August 21, 2012 (BOURNE) _ Air Station Cape Cod has received a new medium range surveillance aircraft.

The H-C 144-A was on display today at their base on the Massachusetts Military Reservation.

The aircraft is becoming the Coast Guard’s primary maritime patrol aircraft.

It replaces the aging H-U 25 guardian jet and has an endurance of more than 10 hours, as well as extensive sensor capability and passenger capability.

The plane will be used for maritime patrol, drug interdiction, disaster response and search and rescue.
