August 16, 2012 (PROVINCETOWN) _ The Provincetown Center for Coastal Studies Entanglement Team has freed two entangled leatherback sea turtles in the past two days.
Offcials say both turtles were caught in fishing gear in Cape Cod Bay – with line wrapped around their neck and foreflippers.
Recreational boaters spotted both distressed turtles.
Both swam away unharmed after they were disentangled.
Leatherbacks are protected under the U-S endangered species act and are one of the largest living reptiles in the world.
