August 15, 2012 (YARMOUTH) _ A  Yarmouth police cruiser was struck yesterday while responding to an emergency call.

Officials say the marked cruiser – driven by Officer Melissa Alden – was hit at the intersection of Buck Island and Higgins Crowell roads just after 4:30 pm.

Alden was responding to another car crash at the time.

The driver of the car that struck the cruiser is identified as Janice Holland, 58, of South Yarmouth.
 
She was cited for failing to yield for an emegency vehicle.

Officer Alden was taken to Cape Cod Hospital with minor injuries. Holland was not hurt.
