August 9, 2012 (SANDWICH) _ Sandwich selectmen may have some legal cover when it comes to liability regarding the town boardwalk. The board questioned last week whether they should look at prohibiting the long-standing practice of people jumping from the boardwalk into the water. But a letter the selectmen received from the Massachusetts Interlocal Insurance Association addresses the issue. It indicates activities on the boardwalk would be protected from liability as long as the town does not charge a fee to use the facility. The agency cites Massachusetts General Laws dealing with the administration of government.
