"Melissa's Bill" awaits Gov. Patrick's signature

August 2, 2012 (BOSTON) _ The formal legislative session is over for the year.

Now Governor Deval Patrick has 10 days to veto or seek amendments to 31 bills sent to him this week.

One law the governor has promised to sign is "Melissa's Bill" that would bar parole for repeat violent felons.

The bill has been championed by Les Gosule.

His daughter Melissa was murdered in 1999 by Michael Gentile of Falmouth who picked up the woman near the Cape Cod Canal when her car broke down.

Patrick said he would sign it even though his last-minute bid to amend the bill failed.
