Lawmakers give casino deal final approval; awaits Patrick signature
July 27, 2012 ( MASHPEE) _ Final approval has been given by state lawmakers to a compact that would allow the Mashpee Wampanoag Tribe to build a casino in Taunton.
The deal promises the state 21.5% of gaming revenues if the tribe succeeds in developing a resort casino in Taunton.
The bill now heads to Gov. Deval Patrick's desk.
The tribe says the proposed casino would generate nearly $512 million in annual revenue.
They still need to put land in Taunton into federal trust before the project can move forward.
