July 25, 2012 (BOSTON) _ A sentencing overhaul bill remains on Governor Deval Patrick’s desk this week.
He described the measure yesterday as good, but not great.
But he told reporters he has not decided whether to sign it, veto it, or send it back to lawmakers with amendments.
The bill would crack down on habitual offenders by barring parole after a third violent crime.
The so-called "three strikes" provision has been championed by Les Gosule. His daughter Melissa Gosule was murdered in 1999 by Michael Gentile of Falmouth.
Gentile offered Gosule a ride after her car broke down near the Cape Cod Canal -- then raped and killed her.
