DENNIS - The operator who passed away as a result of the motorcycle crash in West Dennis on the morning of July 15, 2012 has been identified by the Dennis Police Department as Emmit Yates, age 35, of Hyannis.
The second motorcyclist, Edward Kelley, 43, of Yarmouthport. was transported to Barnstable Municipal Airportt and from there he was MedFlight to a Boston hospital.
Initial investigation revealed that the motorcycles, each being occupied by one rider, were travelling east on Route 28. The operators lost control of their motorcycles striking a utility pole on the south side of Route 28. The bikes then flipped onto their sides propelling their riders forward and into the street (see original story here).
The police are looking to speak with the operator of a third motorcycle who is believed to have been travelling with the group. The crash remains under investigation and anyone with information is asked to call the Dennis Police Department at 508-394-1314.

Single-vehicle crash closes Route 28
ORLEANS - (with WXTK) A single car crash just before midnight closed Route 28 between Monument Road and Pond Road in South Orleans for about 12 hours.
The call came in at 11:22 p.m. that a telephone pole was broken just north of the intersection of Monument Road and Route 28. Responding officer’s discovered the pole, broken in multiple places and a vehicle into a tree in the woods at the same time. Due to arching wires in the trees, NStar cut power to the area so emergency personnel could work on the crash scene. Rescue personnel found a single occupant of the car with minor injuries from the air bag deployment. No other serious injuries were reported. Due to the complexities of the crash scene and the damage to the broken pole, NStar was completing work on the transfer of services to a new pole and the road did not reopen until around noon. Orleans Police continue to investigate the crash.
