Cape Cod Community College student gets jail time on gun charge
July 11, 2012 (BARNSTABLE) _ A Cape Cod Community College student found with a loaded handgun on campus has been convicted of carrying a firearm without a license and carrying a gun on school grounds.
Jason Whitehead was sentenced to 2 1/2 years in jail – with 18 months to serve.
The balance of the sentence will be suspended for five years. Whitehead was also ordered to undergo psychiatric testing and stay away from the college.
A campus security guard spotted ammunition in Whitehead’s car last march. Barnstable police then found a loaded 380 semiautomatic handgun and additional ammo in his backpack.
At the time of his arrest -- police say Whitehead made comments about the end of the world and said the gun was for his protection.
