Brush fire scorches an acre in Sandwich
SANDWICH - A stubborn brush fire burned about an acre Monday afternoon. The fire was in a remote area near the intersection of Quaker Meetinghouse Road and Cotuit Road. Thick smoke blanketed the area. Firefighters used a breaker to reach the fire. Crews were on scene for about 5 hours wetting down hot spots and making sure the fire was completely out. The cause is under investigation. Mashpee and West Barnstable covered Sandwich during the fire.
Aircraft incident at MMR
MASSACHUSETTS MILITARY RESERVATION - No injuries after an emergency at the MMR base shortly before 1 p.m. A single-engine Piper PA-28 aircraft resported suffered a cracked windshield. The plane did not suffer any other damage and was towed to a hangar for repairs. Further details were not immediately available.
