July 9, 2012 (ORLEANS) _ Nauset Beach in Orleans was re-opened to swimming yesterday after a great white shark sighting prompted a closure Saturday afternoon.
The shark -- between 12 and 14 feet long -- was spotted only 100 feet from shore.
The Orleans parks and beaches superintendent had just issued a precaution to beachgoers at the end of last week to be vigilant about the presence of sharks in the area.
Beachgoers in both Chatham and Orleans have been warned to stay at least 300 feet away from any seals -- which are the meal of choice for the sharks.
