Alleged heroin user mistakes undercover car for friend's vehicle
HYANNIS
- On Tuesday, Members of the Barnstable Street Crime Unit (SCU) Barnstable Police Officers Scott Wright and Keith Sexton were assigned to patrol Hyannis. SCU uses unmarked police vehicles and its member dress in “plain clothes.” One of their primary duties is to suppress  “open air” narcotics activity in the towns of Hyannis and Yarmouth.

At approximately 2:02 p.m., Wright and Sexton were on patrol in the Sea Street area of Hyannis.  They observed some suspicious activity in the Oak Grove Cemetery on Sea Street. A female, later identified as Jody L Florence-Howes, 42, of Falmouth (left), was observed in a vehicle stopped in the cemetery. She appeared to give a hand signal to Wright and Sexton. They stopped behind her vehicle. She exited her car and attempted to get into the rear seat of the unmarked SCU patrol vehicle. Howes had mistaken the SCU unit for a vehicle she was waiting for.

A follow-up investigation conducted by Wright and Sexton revealed that Howes was waiting on the delivery of two bags of heroin from a local drug dealer. Several minutes later a second vehicle entered the cemetery. That vehicle was very similar to the vehicle being operated by Wright and Sexton. The operator of the second vehicle was identified as Corey A Pina, 21, of Yarmouth (center).  A passenger in the vehicle was identified as Kiranbir Singh, 22, of Centerville (right).  Wright and Sexton located two bags of heroin inside Pina’s vehicle.  Florence-Howes was also found in possession of a class E substance without a valid prescription.

All three were placed under arrest and charged with the following

Florence-Howes:
Conspiracy to violate narcotics laws
Possession of class E substance

Pina:
Possession with intent to distribute heroin
Conspiracy to violate narcotics laws
Being present where heroin is kept

Singh:
