Rear-end crash sends one to hospital

SOUTH DENNIS
– Around 11:10 a.m. Wednesday on Main Street in South Dennis a northbound Nissan Altima rear-ended a Honda sedan. The Honda was stopped in the northbound lane waiting to make a left turn into the Dennis Town Hall parking lot.

The force of the collision pushed the Honda around 100 feet from the impact point. The Altima came to rest beside the Honda off the road and into a fence at 506 Main Street. The driver of the Honda, a young man, was uninjured but the driver of the Altima, a woman, was transported to Cape Cod Hospital by Dennis Rescue with unknown injuries that did not appear to be life threatening. Both drivers were traveling alone.

The vehicles sustained moderate to heavy damage. Travel on Main Street in front of Town Hall was reduced to one lane until the scene was cleared.

CWN Team Coverage by Frank F. Paparo and John P. Carroll

BARNSTABLE
- A bus lost its brakes during Wednesday morning’s commute on Route 132 southbound near Shoot Flying Hill Road.

The bus scraped the passenger sides of two pickup trucks and a car before coming to rest against the Route 132 guardrail across the street from the Hyannis Golf Course.

As the bus incident was unfolding, a town worker on a tree-cutting project at the nearby Hyannis Golf Course was apparently seriously injured by a falling tree.

He had to be airlifted by a MedFlight helicopter, which landed on Route 132, further jamming up traffic.

Then about 2:15 p.m. two vehicles collided by the Friendly's Restaurant across from the Holiday Inn on Route 132. A Nissan Versa and a Lincoln Town Car collided. Several people were evaluated but all declined to go to the hospital. Barnstable Police are investigating the crash.

Falmouth fire sends one to hospital

FALMOUTH
- Falmouth Fire Rescue responded to a report of an active fire in a third floor apartment in the large apartment building at 704 Main street in downtown Falmouth about 10:10 p.m. Tuesday evening. The fire, apparently confined to the kitchen area of the third floor unit, is under investigation.

All the occupants of the large building were evacuated as a precaution. The fire was extinguished by the sprinkler system and first arriving Fire Fighters. One occupant of the building was treated and transported to Falmouth Hospital by Falmouth Fire Rescue ambulance with apparent minor effects of smoke inhalation.

The sprinklers caused water damage to some other units in the building and the building inspector was called to advise on when other occupants could return to their homes. The building is apparently managed by the Falmouth Housing Authority who also had representatives on location.
