8/19 (Chatham) Long-time tenants of five camps on North Beach Island in Chatham are upset that Cape Cod National Seashore officials say they have to go by the middle of next month

August 19, 2011 (CHATHAM) Long-time tenants of five camps on North Beach Island in Chatham are upset that Cape Cod National Seashore officials say they have to go by the middle of next month.

Many of those residents and others opposed to the move packed a meeting of the North Beach Advisory Committee Thursday night.

They told Superintendent George Price that they don’t believe there’s a need to tear down the structures at this time.

Price says the decision to not renew the five leases is based on concern the homes could fall prey to winter storms.

He admits it wasn’t an easy decision – but one that had to be made. Many who spend summers on the beach have been doing so for more than four decades.
