July 11, 2011 (BOURNE) With a special town meeting looming this month that will focus on whether lifeguards should return to Bourne beaches – selectmen will meet with the finance committee tonight.           

The decision to save about 75-thousand dollars this year by not staffing beaches has generated criticism from residents about the safety of Bourne’s beaches.           

It prompted a grass-roots effort that led to the scheduling of a July 25th special town meeting.           

Town officials say it didn’t make sense to fund lifeguards when they were laying off other town workers.
