Hospital- Non-Profit Team Up For Senior Project

Martha's Vineyard Hospital and a nonprofit have finalized a multi-million-dollar agreement that will provide workforce housing plus skilled nursing services for seniors.

The hospital, which is the only facility on the island, and Navigator Homes have agreed to the transfer of an Edgartown property, and the release of 53-million-dollars in U.S. Department of Agriculture funds.

The "Green House" project envisions more than 60 skilled nursing beds in five homes, plus 48 workforce housing units, with subsidized rents.

Figures show Dukes County's population aged 65 and older will increase in the next decade, before dropping around 2050.
