Grant Urges Words Not Actions To Deescalate Situations

Federal funding to provide de-escalation training for police officers is coming to Dennis.

The agency will receive more than 231 thousand dollars to teach officers the use of verbal and non-verbal skills designed to slow down the speed of events; this allows officers to maintain situational awareness, conduct threat assessments, and minimize the risk of a physical confrontation or violence.

The funding is part of the more than 334 million dollars in critical grant funds being made available to law enforcement agencies and stakeholders through the Office of Community-Oriented Policing Services.
