Details For Dock Accident At Woods Hole Revealed

Details of what caused a Steamship Authority vessel to slip its moorings and collided with a dock in Woods Hole earlier this summer have been revealed.

The freight vessel Sankaty drifted from its moorings on the afternoon of July 27th and struck a dock owned by the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institute.

No one was on board the vessel at the time, and there were no injuries or significant damage.

Records show warnings were raised that Sankaty's crew were not following proper procedures to secure the vessel and were warned in the days before the incident.

The SSA reportedly has changed training procedures.

Redacted versions of employee statements and communications were not released until late last month.
