New Firefighters Approved In Orleans

While election results are not yet official, voters in Orleans have approved the hiring of eight new firefighters.

With a nearly 30 percent turnout, voters approved a series of ballot requests to override Proposition 2-1/2.

They agreed to 925-thousand-dollars to pay salary and benefits for the firefighters, beginning July 1st, 2024.

Another 231-thousand would cover equipment and related costs, while 500-thousand would be spent for an aerial ladder.

Hiring for the new positions is expected to begin in January.
