MA House. Senate Supplemental Budgets $200 Million Apart

We are expecting the Massachusetts Senate to vote on its version of a supplemental budget which is different from a House passed version earlier this month.

The Senate version includes some 20 million dollars in farm relief because of the devastating floods in Western Mass over the last ten days.

The Senate also cut about 180 million dollars in proposed spending that had been approved by the House.

The Senate version of the supplemental spending plan is 513 million dollars. The House version 693 million dollars.

What the House and Senate bills agree on are some 180 million dollars to support hospitals which have seen issues develope since the pandemic. 100 million dollars goes to the pension fund and 75 million dollars in new state aid to schools.

Once the Senate approves the spending plan it will go to a conference committee to work out the differences.
