Annual Nicholas G. Xiarhos Memorial Blood Drive Begins Friday

The 12th annual Nicholas G. Xiarhos memorial blood drive is back and Cape Cod Healthcare is trying to get as many donors as possible as a blood supply shortage continues.

It’s named after the late Marine Corporal Nick Xiarhos, who died from wounds sustained in combat in Afghanistan back in 2009.

Nick’s truck was blown up and he was crushed by debris.

He was brought to a hospital tent, but passed away when medics ran out of blood to give him.

Donating is critical now as the Red Cross says it’s the worst blood shortage in over a decade.

The drive is three days this year, kicking off on Friday the 12th and going through Sunday the 14th.
