Today is “Giving Tuesday” and the State Attorney General says that a new survey indicates that less than half of the money contributed through professional solicitors makes it to the charity you think you are giving to.
The Attorney General says that it is not illegal to hire companies to do the fundraising. And she says that it is also not illegal for the companies to take something off the top.
Maura Healey says that of the 170 million dollars collected by professional fundraisers in the state, less than 81 million went to the actual charity.
The AG says you should make an informed decision before giving.
