Falmouth Needle Exchange

At its meeting last night the Falmouth Board of Health repeated its support of the Aids Support Group of Cape Cod’s plans to open a needle exchange location in the town.
The Cape Cod Times reports that the group secured a lease for a commercial building at 178 East Falmouth Highway, across from St. Anthony’s Church last summer after receiving a letter of support from the board.
When town residents became aware of the lease and location they demanded that the board rescind its letter of support.
The Aids Support Group ultimately withdrew from the lease and are now planning to relocate the needle exchange in another part of the town.
At last night’s board meeting, the Support Group told the crowd of residents at the session that in addition to needle exchange, the organization would also be doing screenings for Hepatitis, HIV and other sexually transmitted infections, supply Narcan and guidance for its use, plus offer counseling services.
Many public comments supported the program, but in a different part of town.
The board did not rescind its letter of support.
The Aids Support Group will hold a public forum on Tuesday, February 26th at 10 A.M. at the Falmouth Jewish Congregation.
