State Representative Randy Hunt won re-election to the 5th Barnstable District, defeating political newcomer Jack Stanton.
The Sandwich Republican received a congratulatory phone call from his Democratic challenger less than thirty minutes after the polls closed at 8 p.m.
Hunt was complimentary to his fellow Sandwich resident in his victory speech at Sandwich Hollows golf club, predicting a bright future for the political rookie.
The 5th Barnstable District includes Sandwich, Barnstable Town, Bourne, Plymouth, Buzzards Bay, East Sandwich, Forestdale, Monument Beach, and Sagamore.
